“I haven’t seen him since high school.” She continued and proceeded to get out of the car. She walked into line. “Hey Jordan.” The tall guy in front of her turned around.
“Hey Lyssa.” He called her. “How are you?”
“I’m doing well, how are you?”
“Same stuff just a different day.”
“This is my boyfriend, Jordan.” I shook his hand.
“It’s nice to meet you.” I agreed. “Don’t you play for the Penguins.”
“Yes I do.”
“That’s cool. Good luck. I know play offs are coming up!”
“Thanks man.” It was then his turn to order.
“Well it was nice seeing you Lys and nice meeting your Jordan.”
“Take care!” and now we ordered. Lys got an Oreo and m&m flurry while I got a chocolate dip cone. She paid with cash and I took a lick of the ice cream. It was good! We decided to sit on the bench on the side of the building and eat our ice cream because it was such a nice day. She then started to laugh. “I just thought of something… do you know what his last name is?” I shook my head no. “Stull spelled s-t-u-l-l. And you’re Staal but different.” She laughed. It was pretty funny so I joined in.
“This is excellent ice cream babe.” I stated when I was finished with my cone.
“See I told ya!” she smiled and I kissed her. We got back in the car and drove to my house. We finished the night cuddling and watching a movie.

The next day we had a game down the Mellon against the Thrashers. They were a decent team to play. We woke up, went to breakfast and headed to the arena. We were there by 11. I pulled in right next to Geno’s white Porsche. He and Alex stepped out of the vehicle.
“Hey guys!” Lys greeted and hugged both. She and Alex started talking about something school related when we talked about that day’s game. When we reached the locker room we kissed our girls goodbye. They were heading up to the special box seating. I needed to concentrate on the game ahead. If we won today then we eliminate the chances of the Thrashers gaining a play-off spot. We need to do that. Coach Dan Blysma gave us a pep talk and told us what to watch out for and the normal stuff. Then Sid said something straight to the point.
“Stay focus and win!” We went out and gave it our all beating the Thrashers in overtime 4-3.  I was in the locker room getting changed when I heard the girl’s voices down the hall.
“We are leaving to go back to Cleveland right now.”
“Are you flying or driving?” asked Alex
“Flying. It’ll be faster.”
“Aww well have a safe trip and text us when you get there.” Lys said.
“You too Alex! Hope you and Geno have a safe flight to Virginia.” Natale told her.
“Thank you.”
“Hey I’ll see you guys, have a happy Easter.” Sid told us and went to meet up with Natale. I heard more goodbyes exchanged before Lys and Alex entered the room.
“Ready to go, hun?” Geno asked Alex. She nodded.
“See you Lys.” The girls hugged.
“Please don’t forget to text me. Geno will you remind her, please.”
“Of course! But sorry if I forget too.” He replied. I chuckled. He was such a character.
“See you guys later.” I told them as they left.
“Jordan, are you headed home as well?”  Max approached us.
“Nah, I’m spending time with Lys and her family this Easter.”  I replied and wrapped my arm around her waist. I was still sitting on the bench.
“Cool do you guys wanna head down to Mario’s and get a bit to eat?” I glanced at Lys and she nodded yes. We headed down there with the Max and couple of the guys. It was a nice way to celebrate the victory and spend time with friends. Back at my apartment Lys insisted on playing a board game. We played Monopoly. Let me tell you, she is good at that game and she won. We ended the night with a little loving before fall asleep in each other’s arms.
We woke up fairly early to get ready for church. It was at least a 45 minute drive but it’s Sunday so I can probably make it in 30 minutes. Once there we were greeted by her grandmother and various members of the church.
“Oh Jordan I forgot to tell you, the congregation is getting a group photo after service to put in the 100th anniversary book, could you please take it for us?” I told her I didn’t mind at all. We then chatted with the Reverend before taking our seats. After communion and worship service we gathered outside in front of the church. I took a couple of pictures and then went inside to take the council member photo. All turned out nice. For Easter dinner this year, Cathy got tickets to eat on the Gateway Clipper. It was back to Pittsburgh we went. I offered to drive so we piled into the Cadillac and headed down to Station Square. The food was delicious, the sites were amazing but company was the best!
Once we were back at home I just held her on the couch while we watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
“I love you. Thank you for inviting me to spend time with your family on Easter.”
“You’re welcome and I love you more!”
“No I love you more!” I started to tickled. We had a tickle fight until the show came back on. Sadly she had to leave tomorrow. She needed to be back at school for a meeting with her Global Marketing Group. “Hey I won’t see you tomorrow, will I?”
“No babe I don’t think so. I was planning on leaving here around one.” I gave her a puppy dog eyes. “But I’ll see you for the game on Tuesday!” she kissed my lips. That she would! I love spending as much time as I can with her. We finished the show and headed to bed with one thing on our minds. It was a great ending to a marvelous weekend.

In the morning I let her sleep as I got ready for practice then kissed her lips before I left. She texted me in the afternoon saying that she made it back to school safely that she’d call me that night. That night I asked if she wanted me to have car come get her for the game.
“That would be lovely Jordan, thank you! Save me some money on gas.” It was settled the car was coming at 4 seeing as she got out of class at 3:45. “See you tomorrow baby. I love you!”

She arrived at the arena around 5 and came straight to wish me good luck. She kissed me on the cheek before she headed up to the box. The game was brutal. Ovechkin was a hitting machine checking players across the rink. We needed to win this game if we wanted any chance of a division title. We played our hardest but it just was not good enough. The Capitals won, 6-3. I was walking into the locker room when I saw Lys farther up in the corridor but then she was stopped by him.
“Hey Alyssa” I heard Ovechkin stopped Lys on her way to the locker room. I made eye contact with her.
“Great game!” they exchanged hugs and he kissed her on the cheek. I saw her blush. She started to make her way toward me but I just looked away and headed into the locker room. Their voices traveled down the corridor.
“Thanks Lys. Hey why don’t you come see the guys, I’m sure Nikolas would like to see you.” He said to her. I’m sure Backstrom would like to see her. They almost dated!
“Well Jordan normally takes a shower now so I guess I will.” Damn her for knowing my schedule and for going with Ovechkin! How can she stand talking to him after they way that he beats up players?
“Jordan, what’s up man?” I heard Max’s voice. I looked over to see him just in a towel and hair dripping wet. “Where’s Lys?”
“With Ovechkin.” I hastily stood up and removed my gear before heading to the shower. She still was not back by the time that I was done so I changed back into my suit I had worn earlier in the day.
“Have a safe drive back Alex.” I heard her voice.
“Thanks, you call me the next time you are in town.”
“Will do.” She then waved goodbye and turned into the locker room. I quickly looked away from the door. “Hey baby.” She kissed my cheek. “Awesome game despite the loss.” She said. ‘Awesome game?’ I thought. ‘We played horribly! Our timing was off and everything, it sucked.” I mumbled a thanks and gathered my things before heading for the door. Lys didn’t say another word and just followed.
“Jordan, Jordan, Staal, I love you,” Were heard from the screaming fans outside the arena. I just walked to the Cadillac with Lys in tow. We climbed in and rode in silence back to the apartment.
“Jordan I’m sorry about your loss.” I don’t know what happened to me but that set me off.
“Do you think sorry is going to bring back our chance of the Division title? No! Do you think it’ll bring back the game we just played? No! Do you think it’ll be enough after you hung out with Ovechkin? NO!”
“You know I’m friends with him and the team why would that be a problem?”
“He’s the rivalry, Lys. You do not fraternize with the other team.”
“Well, gee sorry for having friends on other teams.” She spat at me. We glared at each other. I could feel the anger building up inside. I do not know what I was more of, angry because we lost the game or jealous because she spent time with Ovechkin.  “I’m sorry for you loosing the title and for the game but I’m not sorry for hanging out with Alex. He is my friend and I can hang out with whom I choose.” That did it. I raised my hand and slapped her across the face. As soon as my hand made contact I wanted to take it back.
“Lys I’m so sorry.” I told her and went to give her a hug, but she backed away. “I never meant to do that.”
“Jordan, I’m leaving.” She was trembling and crying gathering her purse.
“You’re in no condition to drive.” I somehow managed to convince her to stay. I offered her the bed but she just took the couch. I tossed and I turned that night. I even texted Sid at some point but he must have been sleeping. Somewhere in between the hours of 2 and 3 am I fell asleep. I woke around 7 hoping to kiss and make up with Lys but I noticed a note on my bed stand.

Dear Jordan,
I’m sorry. I couldn’t stay here any longer. I’m going to clear my head this weekend so I will not be at Thursday game. Good luck, though. Please do not try to contact me. I will contact you when I am ready.
                                                                                                                                                Lys
                                P.S. I don’t feel right wearing this.

I looked down to see the necklace I had given her weeks prior. I started to break down and cry. I didn’t want to lose her. She is too valuable to me. It pained me not scoop her up in my arms and take her to bed with me last night. Where could she be going this weekend? I hope she’s alright. I needed to talk to someone and I dialed Sid’s number not caring if I woke up him. I needed to be with someone or I might do something stupid alone – without her. Sidney showed up 20 minutes later.
“What happened?” he asked when we sat on the couch. So I retold the horror story of last night. I even started to get choked up a bit.
“Where do you think she’s gone?”
“I don’t know but she’s not wearing her necklace.” Sid didn’t even know what to say. “Why don’t you call Alex or Natale, maybe they know where.” He suggested.
“See I knew you were here for a reason.” I picked up my phone to dial Alex’s number. “Wait what’s today?” He answered with a Wednesday. I then glanced at the clock. Alex has school during the day. “Alex is student teaching during the day so I don’t want to call her.”
“Wait you said Alex teaches during the day.” I nodded. “Then what if Lys has class?”
“She does! And I know she will not skip her classes on any circumstance.” I smiled. “Sid, do you want to take a drive?”
“We can’t, we have practice. Besides the note said not to contact her.”
“But I need to know she is alright.”
“Check her twitter? I know she always updates.” I shrugged. I wanted to see her and make everything all better and apologize again. “Come on get showered I’ll drive you to practice.” I did that and tried not to let the fact that she was gone effect my performance but it did. Coach even noticed and asked what was wrong so I explained everything to him. All through practice I kept reliving the events, why did I hit her? There was no need to hit her. No need to worry about her and Ovechkin. She was coming home with me she always comes home with me…until now.

JS - She Has My Heart - Chapter 2

Disclaimer: I do not own the Pens or the Caps or anything hockey related. The only thing I own is the character Lys and the plot. so ENJOY! :)
***

After we made love she took a little nap and I decided I was going to cook her something for dinner.  I rummaged through my fridge to see what I had…not too much. I decided to make her just a simple pasta dish for the Italian genes in her! ‘Why don’t I have garlic bread?’ I thought. So I decided to run to the store to get a few extra ingredients. I was back within 20 minutes. I even stopped and got some wine at the state store. Thankfully she was still sleeping when I got back and I started to get everything ready.  I preheated the oven, turned the stove on to boil the water and went to go search for something in my closet. Lys stirred a little but didn’t fully wake. I returned to the kitchen the oven was ready and the water was starting to boil. I put the garlic bread in then went to set the table. I put a white table cloth over the small dining room table. I pulled a center piece of candles from the closet and placed them on the table then lit them. I found some more candles and placed them around the room and lit them as well. When I was done I poured the noodles into the boiling water and took the garlic bread out of the oven. I then placed another pot on the stove and pour some sauce in it to let it warm up. Next, I went over to the table to set the wine glasses and dinnerware and then proceeded to stir my spaghetti.  I heard her voice moments later.
“This smells delicious. I love it!” I turned to see her hair tasseled from the nap and she wore just one of my t-shirts again. I kissed her lips before I turned to drain the pasta. “Thank you so much sweetie.”  She smiled that adorable smile.
“You’re welcome. Why don’t you go have a seat and I’ll be over with the food.” She nodded but grabbed the plate of garlic bread and made her way over. She then saved me a trip by returning with our dishes. I filled them up with spaghetti and sauce before she took them back to the table. “Oh I almost forgot the wine!” I opened the easy twist bottle cap and poured us each a half of glass.
“Jordan this is wonderful, but I feel so under dressed, maybe I’ll go put my pants on.” She started to stand up.
“Nonsense,” I stood up and took off my jeans. “Now we are even.” She giggled.
“You are just too good to me sweetheart! I love you.”
“I love you too. Mangi!” We dug into our dinner and started to talk about the plans for later tonight. “It should be a lot of fun!” I concluded. Then excused myself to get that item that I retrieved from the closet earlier. I placed it next her on the table by her garlic bread.
“What is this?”
“Open it.”  She set her fork down and carefully unwrapped the paper to reveal a long gray box. Inside the long gray box was a silver chain. On the end of the chain was a heart. And on the back of that heart was our initials engraved. “It’s so that when I’m not always around I can still be close to her heart.” I told her. I saw the tears to start to swell in her eyes. I took the necklace from her hand and put it on her. “Do you like it?”
“I love it Jordan, thank you so much!” she turned around to kiss me. “This is so special.”  She kissed me again.  We made out, finished our lukewarm dinner and changed for bowling.
At the alley, there were Tyler, Max, Sid, Natale, Geno and Alex, Lys’ roommate.
“Hey cous!” Tyler came and hugged Lys. It was a running joke between them. Lys’ mother’s maiden name is Kennedy so when they met she asked if Tyler was a long lost cousin and now it just stuck as a joke.
“Hey!” she replied then when to hug her friends. “I didn’t know you guys were coming.”

“Surprise,” Natale shouted. The girls laughed.

“So how do we want to play?” I asked.
“Boys versus girls?” suggested my gal, and then realized that the girls were outnumbered.
“I’ll play with them.”
“Awesome it’ll be the gals and Max versus the boys.” Natale commented. We each got our bowling shoes on and picked out our balls as well. The order of bowlers on my team went Sidney, myself, Geno and Tyler. For the girls it was Natale, Lys, Alex, and Max. Sidney started us off with a strike and so did Natale. Then Lys and I got strikes but Geno got a spare and as did Alex but Max and Tyler both got strikes. The game was off to a good but competitive start. After the first game the girls and Max won. Then it was our turn to win.
“This game decides it all fellows.” Lys stated.
“It feel like game seven.” Geno commented. We all laughed. It came down to the 10th frame. Max needed two strikes to win the game from us. Can he do it? He got one strike. Damn. And then…

“WAY TO GO MAX!” screamed Alex and every girl went to hug him! Max pulled it off just like he pulled off the game winning goal in game seven.

“Yea it feels like game seven now baby!” They were all smiles. It was a fun competitive game. I stole Lys’ camera from her purse and took a candid picture of them celebrating.
“Oh baby! Take a nicer one!” she called to me. “And then I need one of your team.” The gals and Max posed. Then she raced over to steal the camera and take a picture of the loosing team. We all acted sad. It made everyone laugh. “Ok now I want a picture of the boys!” Max joined the group and we all smiled. “Can you please take a picture of the girls for me?” she asked and handed me her pink camera. She and her two best friends posed. “Couples pictures!!! Max and Tyler first!” called Lys.
“Not more pictures.” Alex whined but knew she wasn’t going to win that battle. We all took couple pictures.
“Hey why don’t we get a group one?” suggested Tyler and ran off to ask another person. We took a group picture with the lanes behind us. It turned out cute according to Lys.
“I am craving milkshake. Anyone else?” Geno asked in his Russian accent and broken English. Of course Lys wanted to go! We decided to meet at Eat n Park. We pulled in and were the first ones there so we went to get a table.
“Hey aren’t you Jordan Staal?” the greeter asked.
“Yes I am.” Just then Sid and Natale walked in behind us. I thought the girl was going to faint.
“Table for 8 then?” she stumbled over her words and led us four back to a section behind the salad bar. “Wow!” she said when the rest of the gang showed up. “Your waiter-will be – will be right with you.” She bowed her head a little as if we were some kind of Gods. It amused me.
                “I want a strawberry milkshake!”
“No Lys, remember we have to try that new one.” Alex screamed over Geno.
“Well how bout when it’s just us. It’d be easier.” She smiled and Alex agreed. Then our waiter showed up and she was just as frazzled as the greeter. She took our drink orders which were three chocolate shakes, two vanilla shakes, two mocha java-somethings and one strawberry shake.
“Thanks I’ll be right back with them.”  I put my arm around my baby shoulders. She nuzzled closer to me. We launched into a good conversation. And then Max brought up the game on Tuesday against the Capitals.
“We need to win that game.” Tyler stated. He was right. If we wanted any chance of the division title we needed to beat the Caps.
“Lys do you want to come to the game?” I asked her.
“Yea I’d love to! Plus I’ll get to see Alex!” she smiled and I cringed. The Alex she was referring to was none other than Alexander Ovechkin. Lys had done an internship with the Washington Capitals. I want to say it was her spring semester sophomore year. She transferred down to a school in the DC area just so that she could take the opportunity. She got the internship because someone her Uncle knew, knew someone who knew someone who worked for the Caps. Anyway, she became friends with the team before I had laid eyes on her.  I remember that day like the back of my hand.
We were playing the Washington Capitals during a cold winter game in February of’08. I was running back to the locker because I had forgotten something when I had ran into her. I knocked a beautiful girl over and the papers that she had in her hands went flying.
“I am so sorry.” I told her as I helped her pick them up. I stopped and read one of them. They were flyers demoting our team. Well it was just for laughs because of our rivalry. “Did you make this?” I looked up and into her sparkling brown eyes.
“Yes but it pained me.” I gave her a puzzled look. “I’m from Pittsburgh but my Uncle got me this internship opportunity and well you’ve gotta start somewhere.” She smiled. She had a gorgeous smile. I handed her the stack that I gathered and our hands met. It felt like magic.
“I’m Jordan by the way.”
“Alyssa.” We shook hands and I helped her up. “Thanks for helping me pick all these up but I really must be going. Good luck tonight.” She smiled once more before continuing the direction she came.
“Jordan!” she nudged me as the waitress was handing me my chocolate milkshake.
“Sorry.” I grabbed it and started to eat. We all chit-chatted and made plans to go out after the last regular season game at the Mellon. Well everyone expect for Alex, who couldn’t stay out that late.
“See you guys later!” Lys hugged the guys in the parking lot then turned to hug her girls. “I’ll see yinz Saturday at the game right?!”
“See you then.” The girls said and went with their men. We walked to the Cadillac and I opened her door for her. She got in and the when I got in she leaned over to kiss me.
“Thank you for my milkshake.” She said.
“You’re welcome.” I told her. She put on a mix cd and we sang the whole way home. It was a great night.

The next morning while I was at practice Lys went home to spend time with her family. She was going to visit her grandmothers during the day and then meet up with her parents for dinner at the local restaurant. I’d meet her there as well. I pulled into the parking lot and noticed her mom’s ‘04 red Dodge Intrepid was parked in the back so I parked next to it. I walked in and saw her dad sitting on the bench, her mom standing and Lys running toward me. She greeted me with a hug and a kiss.
“Hey Jay, Cathy.” I shook her dad’s hand and gave her mom a hug.
“How are you Jordan?” Cathy asked me.
“I’m great. You look great.” Her mom recently lost a lot of weight! Go her!
“Thank you.” The greeter then showed us to our seats.
“Thanks Becca.” Jay told her. He’s always here and knows everyone. I noticed that there was an extra seat at our table.
“Grandma Nonie is coming,” Explained Lys reading my mind. Just then she walked through the door. I stood up to give her a hug as well.
“Nice to see you Jordan.” She told me.
“Nice to see you as well.” I smiled back at her. Then took our seats in the round booth. Becca came back with our drinks that we had ordered and took Grams order.
“Hey guys! How are you?” our waiter, Angela asked us. She and Lys grew up together. We all chatted for a bit before ordering. As usual, Lys got the shrimp. I was going to try there baked cod.
“It’s good.” Jay commented. Then we all started talking about the Pens, Lys’ graduation and other things while we enjoyed each other’s company. It was nice being with her family. They’ve always treated me well.
“Jordan, are you joining us at church this Sunday?” Grandma asked me.
“Yes I am!” the people at Lys’ were also always good to me. I love how comfortable I am around her and her family. I can definitely see myself with her for the rest of my life. She also fits in with my family when I get the chance to take her home. My mom just adores her and my brothers treat her like a little sister. She wrestles Jared and beat him once or twice.
“Well I will see you then.” She hugged me and then tried to give me a kiss on the cheek so I leaned down to her. Lys grabbed her to go container of pie and we all headed out the door.
“Ok so I got this to go because I want Mrs. Piekut’s ice cream.” I just looked at her.
“Jordan, she has the best ice cream in town!” Cathy exclaimed. Well if she does then I must try it.  We said our goodbyes and drove into her little town for the best ice cream. She told me where to park, on the side street of the corner parlor.
“Uh-oh.” Lys said. I glanced at her. “That’s my ex boyfriend.”
