About noon the next day, I heard the doorbell. I walked downstairs to discover my agent was at the door.
            “Sidney you need to stop.”
            “What are you talking about?”
“Seeing that girl!” I looked at him dumbfounded. “There are pictures of you and her together all this past week. It needs to come to an end!”
“Why does it need to stop?” I asked. “I like her and I like spending time with her!”
“She is not good for your reputation. You are a Stanley Cup champion and an Olympic gold medal winner, what has she done?!” I didn’t answer him. “She is only using you to get to your money. Don’t you see that? She really doesn’t like you at all. Just your money.”
“No I don’t think so.”
“Sidney, you barely know her whereas I know her type. It’s all a scam. She pretends to like you when in reality all she cares about is money.” I thought back to the week we had. She immediately started flirting with that Travis kid. He’s famous as well. And when we went out I did pay for most of the things we did. I thought about what he was saying. “During the interviews today, if they bring it up, which I know they probably will, deny it.” I looked him in the eye. “Say it was just a random fan who was just using you.” I nodded. Yea she was just using me for my money. I paid for a lot of things on this trip.

That afternoon I sat in my spot and prepared myself for game day interviews.  I saw Lys. She smiled at me but I just ignored it.
“Sidney, who is this girl you were seen with this past week.” I took a deep breathe before responding.
“Just some random fan that followed me. I really couldn’t shake her.”
“So, you are not dating her?”
“No I am not dating her, I have no interested in her. She was just trying to use me for my money.” I looked up and met her gaze. I could see the tears forming in her eyes. It broke my heart to see that.
“Sidney, if you didn’t like the girl how do you explain the picture of you and this girl holding hands?”
“She just grabbed my hand for a split second and that’s when they took the picture. I brushed her off after that.” I said. I looked to find Lys but she wasn’t there. The questions now were about hockey. After I finished my manager patted me on the back. I walked out of the locker room to find her. I looked down the hallway to see Kris consoling Lys. What did I do to her? I hate when girls cry. I turned around and walked back in to locker. I wasn’t going to watch that.
“Hey buddy, I told you not to get mixed up with her.”
“Max you were right.” I smiled at him. Just then Kris barged in through the doors.
“What the hell was that all about?”
“What?”
“Some random fan? I had to calm her down she was shaking.”
“She was and besides she was just using me for my money.”
“Didn’t you offer to pay for most things? If I remember hearing you say you’ll take care of the hotel when you asked me if I wanted to join you?” I stared at him. I thought back to what we did together. I did offer to pay for most things and when I wanted to pay for some of her souvenirs she wouldn’t let me.  I shrugged it off.
            “There will be other girls.”
“Not like her, man.” Kris shook his head and walked away.
“Then you date her.” I spat at him.

It has been a two weeks since that press conference and 14 days since I have talked to Lys. Our road trip was so boring without her. And I just miss seeing her face. The pictures on my phone are not cutting it anymore. I made a huge mistake. I should have never listened to my agent. I called Kris to tell him.
“Are you sure she even wants you back now?” he told me.
“Haven’t you been talking to her?” I asked.
“Yes I have but we don’t talk about you. I think she’s moved on.”
            “To you?”
            “I don’t know.”
“Kris, I hope not.” I paused. “I was really starting to fall in love with her.”
“Really?”
“Yes, and I thought about what you said and our time together and I realized I did offer to pay for things and when she offered I just turned her down.”
“Call her up and tell her how you feel.”
“You know she won’t answer my phone calls or my texts.” I told him. “But I’ve got a plan!”

Friday we had a game against the Carolina Hurricanes but I was more nervous about the game-day interview. I had called Mr. Morrison and made arrangements to make sure Lys was there for that game.  After practice I took my seat and waited for the media to gather around. It was then I spotted her. She looked radiant. I saw her walk over to give Kris a hug before coming back over to me. She just glared at me. I softly smiled at her.
“I just want to say something before you start asking questions.” I looked into the sea of camera’s and recorders making sure they started recording. “I made a mistake.” Everyone looked more intensely at me. “I did know the girl from the away trip two weeks ago. She is a sweet, fun-loving, caring person and I was wrong to say that she was just using me for my money. I want to apologize to her for how I treated her. I hope that she will be able to forgive me and be my girlfriend because I think I am falling in love with her.” I looked at her when I said the last statement. She had tears falling down her face. I got off the bench and walked over to her. “Lys, I am so sorry, please forgive?” Now all the cameras were turned onto us.
“Sidney, I-I can’t forgive you.” She said. “You hurt me very bad because I was falling in love with you too.” I sighed and looked away.” “But, you must promise me that you will never put our relationship in that stage again.”
“Lys I promise.”
“Yes I will be your girlfriend.” I pulled her into a kiss. I didn’t care if the cameras were on us. It felt like we were the only two in the room.  I just wanted to take her home tonight. When we parted I just looked at her and I could see myself with her for a long time. I was brought back to reality when the flash of lights wouldn’t stop. I decided to take my seat and let questions flow.
“Sidney, why did you lie?”
“My agent told me.”
“Have you lied about other things?”
“No I haven’t.” Soon after did the questions stop and the cameras left. Lys and I were together again. “I am truly sorry for the way I treated you. You deserve so much better.”
“Like me?” I turned around to see Kris.
