I jogged back to the locker room to get ready for practice. Max approached me.
“Who was that girl?”
“Some girl I met yesterday.” Everyone’s eyes looked in my direction.
“And you took her out for breakfast?” Kris Letang asked me.
“No she cooked me breakfast.”
“You sleep with her?” this came from Evgeni Malkin or as we call him Geno.
“Not exactly.”
“Then what?” my teammates persisted.
“We shared my bed but that’s all we did is sleep.”
“Ok Sid when we said that you should get out more and date girls we didn’t mean one that you just picked up somewhere.” Max told me.
“Well I didn’t just pick her up somewhere.” They continued to stare at me. “She was filling in as reporter for Sam.”
“You mean the guy with the funny looking mustache?” our goaltender Marc-Ander Fleury asked. I just nodded.
“But guys she is really sweet, I am taking her out later.”
“Good for you man!” Kris told me,
“You know what’s cool.” I paused. “I think she is a fan but she didn’t try to make a move on me at all last night..”
“Did you want her to?” Marc-Andre pestered me.
“I actually didn’t know what I wanted but I am glad nothing happened. We can move forward with a relationship.”
“If that’s what you want.”
“That I am sure I want.” I told them and finished getting my gear on for practice.
After practice, I showered and put my jeans and shirt back on. I hopped in my car and drove across town to see Alyssa. When I walked into her store I noticed she had a line. So I just got in it to ordered my food. Her whole face lit up when she saw me. I was so excited that she was happy to see me.
“Hey Sidney, how was practice?”
“It was good! How is work?”
“So far okay, do you want your club?”
“Yes please!”
“What kind of bread?”
“Honey Oat, please.”
“Sure, and what kind of cheese?”
“Pepper jack.”
“Would you like it toasted?”
“Yes” I told her. “Boy you work really fast.”
“Well I wanna get through this line so that I can go on break and join you!” I smiled at her. She was sweet. Another girl finished my sandwich and I was cashed out. I went and took a seat by the window. About 15mins later is saw her walking toward me with her sandwich and drink.
“Nice cup.” It was the collector’s cups from Pizza Hut last season. The cup had my face on it.
“Thanks, you know there is this really good-looking guy on it!” she joked with me.
“What did you order?”
“I got a melt on flatbread.”
“Is flatbread good?”
“Here have a bite!” she passed her sandwich to me.
“That is good! What is on it?”
“Turkey, ham, bacon, provolone cheese, lettuce, spinach, pickles and honey mustard!”
“Definitly have to try that next time!”
“Okay, how was yours?”
“Delicious!” We talked a bit more about our days so far. “So where would you like to go tonight?”
“Surprise me!” she smiled at me. I sat in thought for a moment.
“I can do that!” I reached over to hold her resting hand on the table. Just then our peace and quiet was disturbed.
“OMG that’s Sidney Crosby!” some teenager screamed. Lys grabbed her phone and my hand while I grabbed her cup and she pulled me behind the counter. All you could hear was the doorbell.
“Are those all ins?” a tall older lady asked.
“Yes Michele, I think they all want Mr. Crosby here.” We heard the swing door open.
“Oh no they are not.” She went out there to stop anyone from getting behind the counter.
“Baby give me your keys.” I handed them to her. “Linda lock the door behind me.” She told the other lady that was working. Lys went out and she did just that. Two minutes later I heard a pounding noise. Linda ran back. Guess who walked through the door, Alyssa. “That way you can get home in one piece.” She was the greatest!
“Thank you!” I kissed her on the cheek.
“Text me when you are home.”
“I will. Maybe you should call the cops.”
“If it gets out of control I will! Drive safe!” I went out the back door hoping they got everything under control. I felt bad for causing a scene. I texted her when I got home and she told me that they ended up calling the cops. I felt really bad about all that. Maybe I make it up to them and invite them to a Hockey if they are interested. I will ask Alyssa later! For now I have to decide where I would like to take her on our date. I sate from a moment and then it hit me! I know where I’ll take her! And I needed to call Mario.
I picked her up at her house a little before 7. She told me to walk around back if I wanted to meet her parents. Of course I wanted to meet them! I wanted to know everything about her. I knocked on the door and a dark Italian man opened it up.
“You must be Sidney. Please come in.” Her dad said. “I’m Jay”
“Please to meet you.” We shook hands.
“This is wife Cathy.” I saw a women standing in the living room. She came over to shake my hand as well. “Waldo your date is here!” Then she came out of her bedroom. I tried to get a better look of her room. I caught a glimpse of some posters and a Pens jersey.
“Hey. No peeking! I told you my room was a mess!” she hugged me.
“I am sorry some of your posters caught my eye.”
“Oh she has them all over her room!” her mom commented.
“And he can see it when I clean it.”
“Whenever that will be.” Her mom teased her. I just laughed.
“Alright bye.” She gave her parents a hug and a kiss goodbye before leaving out the back door with me.
“Have fun!” her mom called after us. She was funny.
“Does your mom always tease you?” I asked.
“Yes. We tease each other. I’ll admit I normally start it.” She smiled.
“Is that a warning?”
“It might just be!” we both laughed and opened the door to the car.
“By the way you look great!” she just wore jeans and a yellow top with black tank underneath. She grabbed a gray jacket before leaving the house. Also her hair was down framing her face and she wore a black knit hat on top.
“Thank you, you as well.” I just wore jeans with a lavender polo shirt. “That color looks really nice on you.”
“Thank you. I love your yellow converse.”
“Thanks!” she beamed.
“What kind of music do you listen to?”
“Alternative mostly but I like everything.”
“What kind of bands?”
“We The Kings, Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, The Bigger Lights, Hey Monday, All Time Low…I could go on.”
“I’ve only heard of a few of those like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco”
“Oh well We the Kings did a song with Demi Lavoto…no? Okay then All Time is hilarious! Their lyrics and live shows are great!”
“How many times have you seen them?”
“Oh let’s see…First time was at Cheswick, next was the Riverplex, oh they were at Warped Tour but I didn’t really see them because the crowd was so big. And they were at Bamboozle Road show – that so was amazing!”
“How so?”
“Well it was down at the old Chevy Amp and had great bands! Although I got a touch of sun poisoning it was still one of my favorite shows.”
“Well, who all performed?”
“Oh Stereo Skyline, Mercy Mercedes, The Ready Set, Forever the Sickest Kids, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, All Time Low, Boys Like Girls and Third Eye Blind.”
“See Third Eye Blind I know.”
“I want something else, to get me through this, Semi-charmed kind of life, Baby, Baby…” she sang. “Sorry I know I can’t sing.” I picked up where she left off.
“I want something else, I'm not listening when you say, Good-bye. “ We sang together. “Neither can I.” I smiled at her. We drove into Pittsburgh toward the docks. The conversation continued to flow.
“What are we doing here?” she asked me.
“Well I thought we could have dinner on a boat…Mario’s boat.” I parked the car and helped her out. We held hands on our way down the dock.
“Wow. I’ve never been on a boat like this.”
“Really?”
“Yea I’ve been on the Gateway Clipper but that’s it.”
“Well then I am glad that I can take your on your first boat ride.” She smiled at me. We stepped onto the boat and walked beneath. There I had dinner already set up for us. This is all thanks to Mario of course! It was his chef and his boat driver that would be on board with us. After we ate a marvelous dinner we walked back up to the top of the boat.
“Oh Sidney this view is spectacular.” She beamed as we floated past the point. “Here stand right there.” Then she got her camera out and took a picture of me with the skyline in the background. “Do you like?”
“Wow, that turned out good! Let me take yours!” We traded places but mine didn’t turn out as great as hers. “Let me try again.” That one looked much better. “Hey why don’t we get one together.” That’s when we asked the waiter to take our picture. Alyssa set it up the way she wanted it to look; all he had to do was press the button.
“Can you please take two incase one doesn’t look right.” He nodded. I put my arm around and held her close to my body. She had one arm around me and her other hand was resting on my chest. The waiter took pictures of us. “They both turned out great! Thank you!” The picture did turn out great and she was so excited about it. Goodness I wanted to kiss her. I leaned down and she leaned in and we kissed. It felt so magical. I know it sounds so cheesy but it’s what I felt. “Wow” she said when we pulled away. We sat down and just kissed as we floated across the Ohio.
“Alyssa, are you ready to go back?”
“You know you can call me Lys or Lyssa.” She told me. “Am I ready to back to shore, yes. I am chilly. If I am ready to leave you then no, I am not ready to do that yet.” She told me. Then I just kissed her.
“Well you don’t have to go anywhere. You can come back home with me.”
“Sadly I can’t. I actually have to open at Subway and then I will be at the game filling in for Sam again.”
“Remember to eat before you come this time.”
“I don’t think I have another meeting so I should be fine. On the other hand if I don’t eat then I can go home with you…” she pondered that thought.
“Well you can come home with me if you do or do not eat.”
“I may just have to take you up on that offer tomorrow night.”
“It’ll be waiting.” We kissed again. I told the driver to take us back to the dock. Once there we thanked them and walked back to the car. I opened her door and then climbed in on my side. “You know tomorrow is my last night at home before our road trip.”
“Aww is it?” she seemed sad.
“Yea it is but this one is only 3 game road trip.”
“Where are you going?”
“I think Nashville, St. Louis, and Tampa Bay.”
“Wow you’ll be jumping a little bit.” We laughed. Before I knew it we were back in front of her house. “If I don’t see you before the game good luck! I’ll be cheering for you!”
“Thank you. That means a lot to me.” I walked her up the driveway and she opened her garage. “Good night.” I kissed her on the lips. I really didn’t want to stop or let go of her. But she needed her rest, as did I.
“Good night Sidney. I will see you tomorrow!” she said. “And of course you can text me.” We kissed one last time before she pulled away. I walked back down to my car. She stood there and waited until I pulled away before going into the house. I don’t know what it is about her but she is great and I cannot wait to see her again.
